Why should I have the system maintained even though I've never had it in use and the seal on the case is unbroken?

Materials are subject to a natural ageing whether or not they are in use. The aging process must be observed and regularly checked to prevent premature wear.

In the course of maintenance, for example, the suitcase seal will be replaced and the case then checked for leaks. If moisture penetrates into the case or the rescue system was still wet when packed after use, the materials may be damaged.
